Caro Emerald is de artiestennaam van Caroline Esmeralda van der Leeuw. Ze werd geboren op 26 april 1981 in Amsterdam. Ze studeerde jazz en zang aan het conservatorium. Ze slaagde in 2005. Van der Leeuw is één van de zes zangeressen van Les Elles, een close harmony group uit Amsterdam. Daarnaast doet ze regelmatig de achtergrondzang bij het Kinderen voor kinderen-songfestival. Van der Leeuw geeft zangles aan de zangschool van Babette Labeij (bekend als vocal coach bij Popstars en Idols). Op 6 juli 2009 verscheen haar debuutsingle Back It Up (#12). A Night Like This haalt #2 en That Man #22. Bij een val van een paard in 2010 breekt ze een ruggenwervel en moet een gipskorset dragen. Op 17 januari 2011 wordt bekendgemaakt dat Van der Leeuw een poliep op haar stembanden heeft, die operatief verwijderd moet worden. De verwachting is dat zij zeker tot en met mei 2011 niet kan optreden. Hierdoor moesten geplande optredens bij onder andere De vrienden van Amstel LIVE worden afgezegd en werd de lancering van de single A Night Like This in het buitenland uitgesteld.
