Marlon Roudette

Op 21 april 2012 stijgt Marlon Roudette in zijn 6e week van 14 naar 10 met New Age. De single New Age leverde hem in 2011 een nummer 1 hit op in hitlijsten van Duitsland (#6 in het jaaroverzicht), Oostenrijk en Zwitserland (#14 in het jaaroverzicht). De op 16 augustus 2011 uitgebrachte track is de eerste single van zijn debuutalbum Matter Fixed.

Marlon Roudette werd geboren in Londen op 5 januari 1983. Roudette is een stiefzoon van zangeres Neneh Cherry. Roudette heeft een dubbele nationaliteit: Brits omdat hij geboren is in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en een Britse vader heeft en Vincentaans door de afkomst van zijn moeder. Roudette was lid van de band Mattafix, die in 2005 #84 haalde in de Single Top 100 met Big City Life en in 2007 opviel met het voor het goede doel opgenomen Living Darfur.

Emeli Sandé

Op 14 april 2012 stijgt Emeli Sandé van 13 naar 10 met Next To Me. Het is haar eerste hit in Nederland.

Adele Emeli Sandé werd geboren op 10 maart 1988 (Nederlandse Wikipedia meldt 20 mei 1987) in Alford, Aberdeenshire in Schotland. Ze heeft een vader uit Zambia en een Engelse moeder. Emeli studeerde geneeskunde aan de universiteit van Glasgow, maar brak haar studie af om zich aan de muziek te wijden. Ze gebruikt niet haar eerste voornaam Adele om verwarring met zangeres Adele Adkins te voorkomen. Ze schreef songs voor onder andere Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis, Cheryl Cole en Tinie Tempah. Haar eerste single Heaven haalde in Nederland de Top 40 niet (tip 3). In Vlaanderen haalde Heaven #23, Read All About It #21 en Next To Me staat nu in de top 10. Emeli is op dit moment druk bezig met het schrijven van teksten voor de comeback van de Sugababes in de originele bezetting.

Op 7 april 2012 stijgt Carly Rae Jepsen van 11 naar 2 met Call Me Maybe. De track verscheen op 20 september 2011 en nadat Justin Bieber en Selena Gomez twitterden over de song kreeg Carly Rae internationale aandacht. De track haalde #1 in thuisland Canada, Australië, Nieuw-Zeeland en Ierland. In de VS piekte de single op #18.

Carly Rae Jepsen werd geboren op 20 november 1985 in Mission, British Columbia, Canada. In 2007 werd ze derde bij de Canadese versie van Idols. In Canada had ze in 2008 haar eerste hit met Tug Of War (#36).

Op 31 maart 2012 stijgen Flo Rida featuring Sia in de twaalfde week van 14 naar 10 met Wild Ones. Het is Flo Rida's zevende hit in Nederland en vijfde top 10-succes. Het is Sia's vijfde hit en derde top 10-notering.

Tramar Dillard, beter bekend als Flo Rida werd geboren in Opa-locka (Florida) op 16 december 1979. In maart 2009 haalde hij voor het eerst de Top 40 met Right Round (met Ke$ha) (#3). In 2010 scoorde hij met David Guetta zijn tot nu toe grootste hit met Club Can't Handle Me (#2).

Sia Kate Isobelle Furler werd geboren in het Australische Adelaide op 18 december 1975. In 2008 haalde zij voor het eerst de Top 40 met The Girl You Lost To Cocaine (#14). Ook Sia scoorde haar grootste hit met hulp van David Guetta: Titanium haalde #2 in 2011.

Joan Franka

Joan Franka stijgt op 17 maart 2012 van 14 naar 7 in de tweede week. Het nummer is de Nederlandse inzending voor het Eurovisiesongfestival 2012.

Joan Franka werd geboren in Rotterdam op 2 april 1990. Joan Franka is half Turks, haar vader overleed toen ze 2 was. Haar volledige naam is Joany Franka Johanna Ayten Hazebroek. Tot haar deelname aan het songfestival was Joan nooit in Turkije geweest, ze spreekt ook geen Turks. Ze werd bekend door haar deelname aan het televisieprogramma The Voice of Holland. Franka werd als één van de zes deelnemers geselecteerd uit 491 opgegeven liedjes voor het Nationaal Songfestival 2012 op 26 februari. Met het nummer You And Me, dat zij zelf schreef samen met Jessica Hoogenboom (artiestennaam Jessie Maria), won ze allereerst het duel met Raffaëla Paton, die Chocolatte ten gehore bracht. In de finale gaf de vakjury de voorkeur aan Ivan Peroti en Pearl Jozefzoon, maar Franka won alsnog dankzij de grote steun van het stemmende tv-publiek. Hierdoor mag zij Nederland vertegenwoordigen op het Eurovisiesongfestival 2012 in Bakoe. Ter ondersteuning van de tekst van You And Me treedt ze op in een indianentooi. Op 1 maart 2012 ontstaat er door een steungroep voor indianen (Real Indian Nation) commotie om het dragen van de indianentooi. Joan Franka over de commotie rondom de tooi in 'Metro' van 10 mei 2012: "Ik had er echt over nagedacht en met de indianen zelf gesproken. Het laatste wat ik wil is mensen beledigen. Het was ook geen heilige tooi, maar een siertooi." Daarnaast valt haar inzending op 2 maart ten prooi aan een in scène gezette plagiaatbeschuldiging van Rambam, een tv-programma van de VARA. De misleiding door werd binnen enkele uren ontzenuwd door reaguurders van het internetforum FOK!

Op 17 maart stijgt Train met Drive By van 11 naar 9. Het is hun zevende single en vierde hit in Nederland en tevens hun vierde top 10 hit. In Frankrijk en Finland was de track al een #1-succes.

Train bestaaat uit zanger Patrick Monahan, gitarist Jimmy Stafford en drummer Scott Underwood. De band werd opgericht in 1994. In 2001 brak de groep door met Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me) (#3). Hey Soul Sister stond in 2010 7 weken op 1 en werd de hit van het jaar.

Triggerfinger

Triggerfinger stijgt op zaterdag 17 maart 2012 van 24 naar 3 met I Follow Rivers. I Follow Rivers is hun eerste hit in Nederland. In de Mega Top 50 en Single Top 100 haalde de track al #1 en daar is de uitvoering van Triggerfinger daarmee een grotere hit dan het origineel van Lykki Li. De hit komt tot stand tijdens de show van Giel Beelen op 3FM waar artiesten bijna dagelijks live optreden. De acts spelen eigen werk en worden gevraagd om een cover te spelen van een hit uit de Mega Top 50. De band speelt het nummer van de Zweedse Lykki Li op 12 februari 2012 in een zogenaamde ‘fraGiele versie’. Ze maken daarbij naast de gitaren, ook gebruik van een koffiekopje, een theeglas, bovenop een kliko en een mes. Drummer Mario Goossens gebruikt dat keukengerei omdat hij anders niets te doen heeft. Donderdag 1 maart 2012 doet Giel in De Wereld Draait Door een oproep om het op #1 te krijgen in de iTuneslijst. Dat lukt niet alleen in die lijst. Triggerfinger is niet de eerste act die I Follow Rivers covert. De cast van ‘Glee’ ging de band in 2011 al voor in de aflevering 'Night of neglect' en dan zingt Jenna Ushkowitz het nummer. Ook Chef’ special, Moss, Blaudzun en Band of skulls coverden het bij Giel.

Triggerfinger bestaat uit zanger en gitarist Ruben Block, bassist Paul Van Bruystegem en drummer Mario Goossens. De groep werd opgericht in 1998 en stond twee keer op Pinkpop (2005 en 2010) en twee keer op Lowlands (2008 en 2010). Soon was in 2008 hun eerste single. In Vlaanderen haalde All This Dancin' Around in 2010 nummer 22 in de Vlaamse Ultratop 50.
