Ordinary Love is afkomstig van de soundtrack van de film Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. Toen de film gemaakt werd en U2 het thema schreef, wist natuurlijk nog niemand dat Nelson Mandela zelf amper een week na de release van de track zou overlijden. De film ging op 5 december 2013 in Groot-Brittannië in première. Gedurende die avond werd bekend dat Nelson Mandela op 95-jarige leeftijd was overleden, waarna direct een minuut stilte werd gehouden. Het is U2's 44ste hit in Nederland en hun 31ste top 10 succes. Op 22 februari 2014 stijgt de single in de 11e week notering terug de top 10 in van 12 naar 8.
U2 is een Ierse rockband met Bono (Paul David Hewson)-zang en gitaar, The Edge (David Howell Evans)-gitaar, piano, bas en soms zang, Adam Clayton op bas en soms gitaar, en Larry Mullen jr. op drums. Deze bezetting is van het begin in 1976 af altijd ongewijzigd gebleven wat uitzonderlijk is in de popgeschiedenis. I Will Follow (live) was in 1982 hun eerste hit (#12). Pas in 2000 scoorden ze hun eerste nummer 1 hit met Beautiful Day (2 weken). In 2001 stond Elevation een week aan kop, in 2006 The Saints Are Coming (met Green Day) 2 weken en in 2007 Window In The Skies 1 week.
